Relationship with Native Americans
When the Pilgrims first arrived in Massachusetts, they had trouble dealing with the rocky soil. However, the Native American tribe, the Wampanoag, was kind enough to teach them the best way to work the land. Squanto, one of the Wampanoag, told the Pilgrims to use fish as fertilizer to grow healthier crops. The Pilgrims and Wampanoag always maintain a friendly relationship, and have celebrated their successful harvests with a feast called Thanksgiving.
